We know that you’re here because you understand the importance of investing in the regenerative mission.

You’re probably also here because you want to nourish yourself with the highest-quality beef, actually connect with your rancher, and understand where your food comes from.

Our Founder

Our founder Kevin Muno is actually not so different from you. Kevin grew up as an athlete with a dream of being a professional baseball player. As he explored ways he could nourish himself with the most nutrient-dense foods, that’s when he discovered “ancestral eating” and how vital grass-fed beef was for his performance. Although Kevin pivoted from his focus of baseball after facing injury, he became that much more invested in the path of regenerative agriculture after realizing how connected the healing of the earth was to the healing of humanity.

With the focus of bringing more healing to the community and to the grassroots of Southern California, Kevin founded Perennial Pastures Ranch in the midst of the pandemic in 2021. The Muno family, along with our team of passionate individuals who make up the Perennial family, work hard everyday to make our beef more accessible to you and educate our expanding community on the power of regeneration.

Regenerate.

Our main ranch is based in beautiful, sunny San Diego, CA and we’ve recently expanded to having a ranch out in Montana, continuing our mission to regenerate the soil and grassroots of the west. The word “perennial” means everlasting, or continually recurring. To “regenerate” means to bring back to life, or more simply put, “to heal”. And, our mission is exactly this.

We are here to bring back healing and vitality to humans through our own ancestral foods (meat) that are consuming their own ancestral diet (perennial grasses). When the animals eat the diet they were meant to, it leads to more nutrient density in the meat we consume. And by taking a regenerative approach to ranching, we prioritize the soil! We bring life back to the soil through our regenerative practices which means the meat you consume actually benefits your health and the earth’s! This is true harmony and symbiosis.

WHAT IS ANCESTRAL EATING?

Many of us on the Perennial Pastures Ranch team have experienced the clear impacts of taking a more ancestral approach to our diets, with grass-fed beef being one of our primary foods!

Some of us used to be plant-based for several years thinking we were doing what was best for the planet.

And some of us still ate meat in the past, but didn’t yet know how to do it consciously.

All of us, however, have up-leveled our energy and performance, connected closer to nature, and have found so much healing through consuming regenerativley-grazed beef.

Understanding the importance of leading an ancestral way of life connects you deeply to the animal, the earth, the community around you, and to your body. When you nourish yourself through ancestral eating, you are sourcing the highest-quality grass-fed and finished meats and organic seasonal produce from the ranchers and farmers you are the most connected to.

You’ve probably realized that once you experience the impacts of this lifestyle, there is no other way. You have truly realized that putting your dollars towards anything that isn’t the highest quality, especially in the foods that you consume are not only not optimal for your own health, but are detrimental to the health of the planet, and may steer us backwards from the regenerative mission of healing.

Although the ideal is the ancestral way, it can seem almost impossible and even overwhelming to think about in the era we live in today. It takes a lot of research to understand the nutrient density and seasonality of your food. And it takes a lot of time and money to shop for and source the highest-quality ancestral foods and find access to them when they are available and in season.

IT’S NOT THAT SIMPLE…

It’s way easier to mass-produce crops, feed cattle in a crowded feedlot and butcher them the moment they are fat enough. But this exact form of animal agriculture, also known as “factory farming” is what is detrimental to your health, the animal’s health, and the earth’s vitality.

A regenerative ranch requires a lot of land, rotational grazing of cows (where cows are moved to different paddocks of grass so the areas that are already grazed on have time to rest and grow back), a lot of water, and a good climate suited for the breed of cattle. We also wait longer than a traditional feedlot to harvest our animals, which means they get to live longer lives. This is highly beneficial for the nutrient density and flavor of the animal, and also gives the animals time to heal the land (as the cows naturally till the soil with their hooves and the dung beatles get to bury the dung nutrients deep into the soil) and create more life.

The process of regeneration is a process - so the efforts we take NOW reflect in the long-term landscape of our ranches. YOU are a part of these efforts. Choosing to invest in regeneratively-raised beef supports this mission tremendously.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of regenerative ranching, it has not yet been scalable, or is it practical to be offered in mainstream grocery stores. A true regenerative ranch simply wouldn't have the capacity to uphold that much volume of beef to constantly be available. Most people have forgotten to step back and question how it’s even possible to have certain foods accessible in hundreds of grocery stores nationwide - this reality is so far removed from how our ancestors used to live and source their foods.

We also happen to live in a time where being stocked up with food should be a priority, allowing you to create more self sovereignty for you and your family. And when it comes to a regenerative ranch, empowering families to create more independence with their food choices is in both of our favors.

RESPECT THE SEASONS.

The way that a true regenerative ranch works is where the animals and the soil are the focus. When the cattle are moved to allow the grasses to rest and grow back, we can bring more life back into the soil.

When we prioritize the seasonality of the grasses and the animal grazing on the perennial grasses, we can actually harvest animals with a way higher nutrient density that’s also way better tasting and juicier. So when the animals are working in union with the earth, this actually directly benefits you, in bringing you the best beef, and it’s why prioritizing and buying into the season matters!

What is NOSE-TO-TAIL NUTRITION?

Ancestral eating not only means sourcing the highest quality foods from your rancher and farmers, but it also means respecting the animal in its entirety. It’s not ideal or even sustainable to always have access to ribeyes, new yorks, filets and other select cuts of a cow. We must wonder how all of the other parts of the animal are being utilized…

Eating “nose-to-tail” is exactly what it sounds like - consuming the entirety of the animal. When you eat ancestral in this way, you’re expanding your access to the nutrients, the type of meal you can create, and you’re also honoring the entire animal, rather than following the societal pattern of only eating certain cuts of steaks.

Slow-cooking roasts, grilling up steaks, stewing up bone broth, nourishing with organ meats - these are just a few of the possibilities of what you can explore when having access to beef in bulk.

It’s exactly why we encourage you to buy beef in bulk, giving you more access to various parts of the animal, and allows you to save a lot. Our ancestors used to hunt large game, which would sustain their families for months at a time. They appreciated and utilized every part of the animal, and were able to absorb the most amount of nutrients too because they were consuming meat from the freshest harvest.

In our current era, choosing to invest in a larger portion of an animal, like ¼ or half of a cow saves you more trips to the grocery store, connects you deeper to the animal and is the most symbiotic option for this earth. For our ranch, it allows us to sell our beef to the community in a more viable way which gives us the opportunity to further spread our regenerative mission.

It’s been beautiful to see this all come full circle. Investing in your health and that of the earth’s and the animals has been the most optimal way to experience an ancestral lifestyle - one where our community can wake up feeling liberated about their food sourcing rather than a slave to the system. Our customers often come up to us at farmer’s markets explaining how much our regenerative beef has healed their bodies and improved their health tremendously. And for those of our local customers who actually come out to see our ranch, they are thrilled to see the efforts we’re making towards transforming into a flourishing and abundant regenerative ranch.

When you nourish yourself with grass-fed and finished beef from our ranches, you become a part of our mission in re-invigorating the soil and adding life back to this earth and its beings.

We’ve got a a variety of recipes and meal ideas on our Instagram, for when you’ve got your beef delivered and you’re looking to cook up your next nutrient-dense, efficient and delicious meal. We’re always excited to connect and answer questions about our regenerative journey and the beef that you’re buying either by directly messaging us, at our ranch tours, and emailing us.

Taking the time to ask the questions and educate yourself on where you’re sourcing your food from, the nutrient density of the food you eat, and understanding how connected you are to the soil is vital on your journey.

The majority of America just chases the sales and overeats factory farmed and mass produced food. They want cheaper food and a lot of it, but aren’t actually focusing on an ancestral approach to their lifestyle. Most people blindly bought what’s advertised to them, instead of understanding where their food is coming from and how much nutrients is actually available for them to absorb and heal from. Folks are stuck in a cycle of wasting time, money and energy in making multiple grocery runs and over-spending on mediocre quality meat.

Unfortunately all of these choices are detrimental to the health of the person, the soil and the animals, moving us backwards. When you eat low-quality, poorly grown food, you actually don’t feel as connected to your food, your body and this earth.

By taking the step and joining the regenerative mission, you not only nourish yourself with the most vital food on the earth, but you also play a crucial part in revitalizing our earth and bringing more harmony to our ecosystems.

What we believe

No Grain

Cows did not evolve to live on grain. Grain requires a completely different set of enzymes for digestion and a completely different digestive process to unlock the nutrients contained inside the grain.

No Chemicals

We don’t use any pesticides or herbicides on our pastures. Both pesticides and herbicides have been shown to kill soil life.

No Tillage

We do not till any of our land to plant crops or have improved pastures. Tillage destroys soil structure and oxidizes organic matter.

Individually graded beef

We work closely with our processors to individually select only the highest quality beef from the best animals. We are also working on our breeding program, introducing breeds like the Corriente and Mashona to create a custom animal that finishes well on grass and is adpated to the mediterranean climate.

Regenerative Grazing

We mimic nature with our grazing and move cows frequently from paddock to paddock, so we don’t over graze or over rest certain areas of the ranch. We try to graze at the highest densities possible for the shortest amount of time possible and allow for recoveries up to a year long.

Animal Welfare

We practice "Bud Williams" style low stress livestock handling techniques on the ranch. We don’t use cattle prods and we minimize yelling and quick movements which stress cows out. Our processing partner One World Beef in Brawley, CA has pens and infrastructure designed by Temple Grandin, the godmother of low stress livestock processing plants.
