Organic

Wait - I thought organic isn’t that great?

Although there are challenges with organic certifications, we do raise these birds under organic standards. And, what organic does well is keep funky (ok, a better adjective is scary) chemicals out of your food - things like herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, etc.

Our turkeys are raised organic but not certified because of the limited processing options in CA - we are happy to talk about the ins and outs of organic certification with you, just reach out!

 

No GMO feed (Corn + Soy Free)

When was the last time you thought about what your turkey ate?

If your answer is “never,” you’re just like most everyone else. But here at Perennial Pastures, we think deeply about all of the parts of our food production system.

Because we raise our turkeys under organic standards, they are never fed GMOs -With our turkey, you are eating the most eco-friendly turkey possible.

Air Chilled

Conventional turkey throws hundreds of birds into large vats of chilled water during processing to bring the carcass temperature down. Without digging into details, that chill tank is like the public pool you swam in as a kid - nuff said, eh?

• Air chilling is the best way of chilling a turkey - each bird is given an individual spot in a giant refrigerator. 
• Air chilling is safer than a chill tank, increases the flavor of the turkey, and makes the crispiest skin ever - the triple threat.

DELIVERY TIMELINE

Our turkey comes from our partner ranch in Red Bluff, Northern California.

The last date to order by is November 11th, 2024. 

Whether you select MARKET PICKUP or DELIVERY, your Turkey will arrive with plenty of time to defrost, prep and enjoy!

Regenerative grazing

We mimic nature with our grazing and move cows frequently from paddock to paddock, so we don’t over graze or over rest certain areas of the ranch. We try to graze at the highest densities possible for the shortest amount of time possible and allow for recoveries up to a year long.

No grain

Cows did not evolve to live on grain. Grain requires a completely different set of enzymes for digestion and a completely different digestive process to unlock the nutrients contained inside the grain.

No chemicals

We don’t use any pesticides or herbicides on our pastures. Both pesticides and herbicides have been shown to kill soil life.

No tillage

We do not till any of our land to plant crops or have improved pastures. Tillage destroys soil structure and oxidizes organic matter.

Individually graded beef

We work closely with our processors to individually select only the highest quality beef from the best animals. We are also working on our breeding program, introducing breeds like the Corriente and Mashona to create a custom animal that finishes well on grass and is adapted to the mediterranean climate.

Animal welfare

We practice ""Bud Williams"" style low stress livestock handling techniques on the ranch. We don’t use cattle prods and we minimize yelling and quick movements which stress cows out.
